Mackinac Bridge 500 pc Puzzle

Opened in 1957, The Mackinac Bridge was a project that had been on people's minds since the late 1800's. Even Cornelius Vanderbilt, a board member of the Grand Hotel, called for the bridge to be built in 1889. A ferry service accommodated passenger and freight traffic through the 1940's, but eventually only a bridge would do. Bureaucratic red tape and World War II stalled the progress, but on November 1, 1957 the Mackinac Bridge opened to traffic, changing Michigan forever. The five mile long bridge spans the Straights of Mackinac, and connects the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan. It is one of Michigan's most iconic landmarks.
